The Solway Multi Magpie trap has three catching compartments around the edge of the trap and a call bird compartment in the middle. The side entry sliding trap doors are operated by a wire treadle that is situated inside each catching compartment. The plastic decoy is available at additional cost.
When a magpie enters the trap, its first instinct is to hop onto the treadle, which then closes the door behind it. You are now required by law (general licence) to secure the trap to the ground, 3 steel pegs are are now supplied. If you are trapping in scotland you need to have a tag fixed to each trap with your authorised user number clearly visable.
The multi magpie trap is for magpies and pigeons, and must not be used for crows since it is too small to accomodate those larger birds. The trap comes ready assembled and boxed, and when used in the right place, it can be one of the most successful traps on the market. The round shape and side entry doors mean that all catch compartments are easily accessible, and the decoy bird has its own extra large compartment.
To get you started, we recommend our decoy magpie, which is designed to help you catch your first call bird. Remember to check your trap at least twice a day and provide your call bird with food, water and a perch. You are also required to provide your call bird with shelter, and this trap includes an in built steel panel to perform this function. More information on laws which relate to larsen traps can be found in our guide to larsen traps. We also have a blog piece on catching crows and magpie trapping; a brief guide to trapping crows and magpies. These trapsare made from 1" square 2mm thick galvanised weldmesh, and are all assembled in Great Britain on our own premises.
